Multidisciplinary Multiple Sclerosis Program

The Multidisciplinary MS Clinic was designed by Dr. Douglas Jeffrey. The Clinic consists of several disciplines: Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Recreational Therapy and Social Services. Other services such as assistive technologies are available. Our goal is to treat patients with MS in a manner that will provide the patients and their families a way to continue to participate in a lifestyle optimized for functional independence. Medical treatments aimed at decreasing disease progression are used in conjunction with symptomatic therapies directed at minimizing spasticity, pain, fatigue and other troublesome symptoms. With this workforce, special needs do arise. This clinic provides guidance in this workforce. Social Services is crucial in assisting the family in learning how to adjust with the disease. Physical Therapy will help the patient learn new techniques that will maximize strength, conserve energy and allow optimal mobility. Recreational Therapy gives the patient opportunities to participate in a lifestyle that they may have had earlier in their life. Dr. Jeffrey oversees the medical care of the patient as well as the treatment plan each discipline outlines.
