We look forward to offering our help with all types of brain tumors treated by Neurosurgeons, Medical Neuro-oncologists,
and Radiation Oncologists.
Although we are not able to offer an opinion about the advisability of paricular treatments based on electronic
correspondence, we are often able to review information at our weekly multidisciplinary brain tumor conference
to determine whether travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA for a complete consultation might be advisable.
We can also perform preliminary screening regarding possible eligibility for one of the numerous treatment protocols offers through the Wake Forest University Brain Tumor Center.
Based on this review we can often schedule a tentative schedule for a one or two day evaluation. This allows you
to take full advantage of the resources available through the Wake Forest University Brain Tumor Center and minimize
your time away from the activities you enjoy.
We request a brief (one page) clinical synopsis which should include the approximate dates of symptoms, the treatments
tried (and dates), and their effects. Including information on the ways that symptoms are affecting one's ability
to perform desired activities and quality of life are most helpful.
In order to provide informed advise on the desirability of travel to North Carolina for consultation and care,
we need to review scans (brain MRI and head CT) and if available the pathology reports. We also prefer to re-review
the pathology slides and tissue blocks when these are available. However, there is sometimes a charge for the review
of the slides and tissue blocks from our pathologists, especially if additional stains or genetic testing are necessary.
At the present time there is no charge for the review by our Neurosurgeons, Radiation Oncologists, and Medical
Neuro-oncologists.
