“At the Sticht Center, we look at every person’s potential for health and quality of life and not their age as the determining factors in their treatment. Whether the problem is heart disease or memory loss or frailty developing from chronic disease, we take into account the whole person, including their support systems, in an individualized plan of care.”—Jeff Williamson, M.D., Clinical Director, Head of Section on Geriatrics and Gerontology.

Wake Forest University and the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation are at the forefront of one of the nation’s most demanding demographic imperatives—the aging of America.  The J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging is the umbrella under which a comprehensive array of clinical and research programs reside.  These include the Section on Geriatrics and Gerontology of the Department of Internal Medicine; the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center; the Geriatric Research Center; the Oristano Program and the Roena Kulynych Center for Memory and Cognition Research.  Each of these unique programs adds a level of expertise and a variety of foci to the whole and makes the J. Paul Sticht Center the first facility in the world to incorporate geriatric acute care, transitional care, psychiatry, rehabilitation and geriatric research under one roof.
