The Geriatrics Research Center (GRC) operates cooperatively with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, the Department of Public Health Sciences, and the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University.
The Geriatrics Research Center is sponsored in part by the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and is especially equipped for research studies in areas of gait, balance, physical performance, strength, cardiopulmonary function, and body composition. Laboratory and assessment areas include: · Biomechanics and Strength Lab · Full-body, three dimensional gait and motion analysis · Walking speed evaluation · Strength and range of motion in ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, and wrist · Balance analysis Cardiopulmonary Lab · Supine and upright bike stress tests · Treadmill · ECG · Expired gas analysis · Cardiac ultrasound Metabolic Lab · Refrigerated and non-refrigerated centrifuge · Temporary sample storage · Preparation for shipping · Investigator networked work station |
