An Important Role
With older patients, family members often play an important role and are encouraged to attend each appointment. Recognizing the importance of involving family members, the exam rooms were designed to accommodate several family members during an examination. During patient visits medical professionals instruct the family about the patient’s specific problems and special needs and encourage family members to ask questions and express concerns.
The Geriatric Outpatient Clinic focuses on guiding the family through the process of making health care decisions. The ultimate goal is to empower the family, making them confident of their ability to deal with health care issues and the health care system.
