It’s All About Going Home

One of the main reasons the Sticht Center can cite so many positive outcomes is its unique approach to care giving.

Medical professionals and specialists at the Sticht Center believe that effective treatment isn't always about curing, but rather about helping our patients and families to cope.

Part of the Sticht Center treatment philosophy involves keeping our patients active. We listen to them carefully, observing all the little things that could easily become big barriers further down the road. The fact is that it would be devastating for a patient to finally return home, only to realize that he or she can't function or manage. That's the point at which the emotional pain is likely to resurface - leaving the patient helpless and hopeless again.

Through using the programs and services of the Sticht Center, our patients learn that they can really live their lives with a medical condition. People do, every day. All you have to know is 'how.'

We Give Our Patients Our Complete Attention

Within the Sticht Center, we believe in the team approach to care. Our patients are often dealing with multiple, complex health problems at the same time, with many factors complicating the situation.

Therefore, within our health-care system, patients are treated by an interdisciplinary team that has the expertise to evaluate and to treat medical, mental and functional problems at the same time.

That team may include a geriatrician, a neurologist, and a psychiatrist. Additionally, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreation therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers and a pastoral care representative all work together daily. When important decisions are made, it's not by one person, but rather the complete team—a team that knows and understands the unique needs of the patient. That's an important point of difference. And a comfort to our patients and their families.

We Get The Family Involved

Within the Sticht Center, we believe that family members play an important role. Not only do they give comfort to the patient, they also provide us with valuable information--information that can be critical in terms of evaluating and treating the patient. When important decisions are made, we want the family involved.

We know that family members are going to have many questions. So, we listen. And we understand that families are under a lot of stress. Thus, we have developed a wide range of support services designed specifically for families.
