Research Education, Training and Career Development

The J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation participates in the research education of medical students, law students and residents through didactic offerings as part of geriatric rotations and through the Tinsley Harrison Research Fellowship. Graduate students in the Neuroscience program and Physiology and Pharmacology receive multiple lectures on the neurobiology of memory and the effects of age on both neurobiological mechanisms and cognition.

Graduate students are also exposed to clinical memory assessment techniques in the Memory Assessment Clinic in Gerontology, allowing students to critically examine the similarities and differences in how memory is assessed across species.

The J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation, together with the Section on Geriatrics and Gerontology, provide many opportunities for medical education in the field of geriatrics and the study of aging.

The Section on Geriatrics and Gerontology prides itself on the number of different learning opportunities and clinical practice venues it is able to offer medical students, residents, fellows and post-doctoral candidates.  In addition, through weekly conferences and annual seminars, the Sticht Center affords the greater medical community an opportunity to expand their expertise in geriatrics through lectures on clinical advances and presentations on current research impacting the field.
