Translational research bridging the gap from bench to bedside

Through the combined efforts of the School of Medicine and the Graduate School, Wake Forest University is proud to offer an integrated MD/PhD joint-degree program where neither the MD nor the PhD degree is compromised. This comprehensive 7-year program provides students with rigorous training in both medicine and a basic science discipline, creating a clinician-scientist with the unique perspective and depth of knowledge of scientific logic and techniques necessary for an effective, exciting and successful career in medical research.

Pride without hubris

The MD/PhD program at Wake Forest University is a young and relatively small program emphasizing quality of character and a commitment to excellence. This is a program truly governed for the students and by the students with the aim of fostering graduates with invaluable experience who demonstrate compassion and creativity while honoring the profession.

MD/MBA

The MD/MBA is offered in conjunction with The Babcock Graduate School of Management and the MD/MS and MD/PhD are offered in conjunction with the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at Wake Forest University.

Students may enter the MD/MBA program at the beginning or middle of medical school. This dual degree is intended to respond to the growing need for professionals who are trained in both medicine and management.

MD/MS

Those interested in the MD/MS degree may choose to complete an extra year of training after the second year of medical school. Medical students may apply for admittance to the M.S. graduate program in the fall of their second year. Accepted applicants are admitted to the M.S. program for their third year of study, and complete required coursework for the M.S. degree in that year. Students rejoin medical studies in years 4 and 5, while they simultaneously complete a master's thesis project as the final requirement for the M.S. degree.

The MD/MS in Clinical and Population Translational Science is designed to developing competencies in clinical researchers interested in conducting translational research.

The MD/PhD joint degree is expected to be finished in seven years. Applicants for the joint degree programs must be accepted via a separate admissions process to the business or graduate school. The Babcock School requires applicants to take the GMAT; the Graduate School accepts the MCAT.
