AirCare makes about 800 flights a year, serving communities within a 150-mile radius of The Medical Center.

Transport Services

The AirCare ambulance program serves patients in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia. The helicopter and its highly trained crew of flight nurses and paramedics are an extension of our Trauma Center. The Medical Center also operates a Neonatal Transport Service that uses AirCare and a specially equipped infant transport ground ambulance.

Wake Forest University/Baptist Hospital Heart Center

The Heart Center was among the first in the nation to investigate the use of new technologies for the treatment of coronary disease including intravascular echocardiography of the coronary arteries, laser angioplasty, stents, and radio frequency ablation of arrhythmia sites. The Center's newest program provides hope for critically ill patients awaiting heart transplants. Mechanical heart pumps are being successfully used to keep the patients alive until a donor heart can be found. The Heart Center treats patients of all ages - a team of pediatric cardiologists serves seven clinic sites in northwest North Carolina and southern Virginia.
