ARRA Funding - Center for Cancer Genomics

The Center for Cancer Genomics has received $5.9 million in research grants as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The ARRA grants were awarded to:

Jianfeng Xu, a Professor of Epidemiology and Cancer Biology was awarded an ARRA Go Grant (RC2 CA148463) from the National Cancer Institute. This study will evaluate whether targeting groups of men based on genetic markers and family history of prostate cancer may improve the effectiveness of chemoprevention for prostate cancer. This would lead to a significant decrease in prostate cancer diagnoses and greatly reduce the burden to the individual and society. This award will be received over two years totaling $3,978,770.

Wennuan Liu, a Research Associate Professor of Public Health Sciences and Jin Woo Kim, a Research Assistant Professor of Cancer Biology were awarded ARRA funding from the National Cancer Institute for their research on global genetic and epigentic approaches to progression of PCa. The grant will be received over two years totaling $1,116,642. They also received an additional two years of funding from regular appropriations.

Wennuan Liu received another award (R01CA135008-01A1) from the National Cancer Institute for his reserach on the interaction of germline and somatic changes in PCa progession. This award will be received over two years totaling $819,892.
