Pediatric Therapy Program
Occupational Therapy
The Pediatric Occupational Therapist specializes in evaluation and treatment of children and young adults with medical and/or developmental disabilities. They provide services for:
Ø Fine Motor–
• Coordination/dexterity skills – Hand grasp and release patterns, handwriting skills, fasteners (buttons, zippers, snaps, and shoelaces), bilateral hand use (scissor skills)
• Visual perceptual/motor skills - Visual tracking, prewriting skills (drawing lines and basic shapes), handwriting
skills (copying from a chalk board)
Ø Sensory Integration
• Coordination of proprioceptive, tactile, auditory, vestibular and visual input
Ø Neuromusculoskeletal -
• Joint and soft tissue flexibility, arm strength, positioning, splinting, and endurance
Ø Oral Motor/Feeding
• Coordination, range and strength of the lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw
• Taste, temperature, and texture advancements
Ø Self Care Skills
• Grooming, bathing, dressing, and self- feeding
