Low Vision Program
Decreased vision can often be significant enough to impact daily activities, resulting in isolation and the inability to enjoy life to the fullest. As a resource and referral service for people with low vision, our mission is to help individuals increase their independence and participation in meaningful activities. These activities vary from person to person but may include:
• handling personal finances
• cooking
• reading
• watching TV
• participating in recreational activities
By assisting with the selection and use of various types of equipment and devices, as well as improved lighting techniques, we can help people cope better with their decreased vision. Our services are provided by a specially trained assistive technology consultant and an occupational therapist and include:
•Instruction in the use of appropriate techniques, lighting, equipment, magnifiers and high tech low vision devices to improve function.
• Browse and use adaptive equipment, magnifiers and high-tech equipment.
• Referral to appropriate community agencies and/or vendors for services and equipment.
• Loan of available magnifiers, adaptive devices and high tech equipment for maximum of two weeks.
• The Functional Low Vision Resource and Referral Service is conveniently located at Comp Rehab Plaza near the campus of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Payment:
• Evaluation/and instruction may be partially reimbursed by insurance. Before your first visit, your insurance coverage will be verified.
• There is no charge for browsing and borrowing of equipment
