Hand Center
Desensitization
Often after an injury, the skin of the hand or area around the injury can be very sensitive and painful. The skin must get used to being touched again for the tenderness to go away. If the sore areas are not touched, they may remain very sensitive and tender. In hand therapy, the therapist works with the patient on getting the area used to being touched. The patient is given a home program designed specifically for the type of sensitivity that they are experiencing.
