Staff/Team
Every year, The Sticht Center’s Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program achieves one of the highest rates in the region for the number of patients who are able to return home following an acute inpatient rehabilitation stay. This success rate is secondary to our team approach to rehabilitation. Our interdisciplinary team includes physiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, social workers, case managers, nurses, dietitians, occupational, physical, recreation and speech therapists; and other professionals. The team provides the following types of care during a patient's acute inpatient rehabilitation stay:
- Physiatrists and neurologists with rehabilitation experience manage the medical and rehabilitation needs of the patient and provide the team with medical direction.
- A social worker or nurse case manager coordinates care throughout the patient’s rehab stay and meets with the patient and family to coordinate discharge plans.
- Nurses, specially trained to work with rehabilitation patients, provide care 24 hours a day.
- A registered dietitian manages the nutritional needs of the patient, including nutritional education for the patient and family.
- A psychologist or rehab counselor helps the patient and family with adjustment issues, as needed.
- A chaplain is available to offer assistance and to minister to the spiritual needs of the patient and family.
The Assistive Technology Services at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center help enhance the patient's independence and quality of life by identifying physical and environmental aids that can assist the patient with activities of daily living, including recreation and leisure activities.
