Wake Forest University School of Medicine
Plastic Surgery Categorical Integrated Training Program

The Plastic Surgery Training Program at WFUBMC is an integrated 6-year program.

We accept 2 applicants per year into the integrated training program. Those individuals who match for the integrated program will be trained for a combined 6-year residency. The first 3 years will include general surgical training, some plastic surgical service, and dedicated research time. The last 3 years will be spent entirely on plastic surgery. Residents will receive vast clinical training in craniofacial areas, general plastic reconstructive procedures, burn reconstruction, hand, and aesthetic procedures. Each rotation will include both inpatient and outpatient services, with each resident having their own clinics for general plastic surgical patients that are under direct faculty supervision. During the 4th year, 4 months will be allotted for an independent research project. An additional opportunity for the chief resident includes an aesthetic clinic with independent operating experience.

Requirements for residency include the completion of a significant research project for presentation at the national meeting and participation in the annual resident research day. Participation in both basic science and clinical research is encouraged.

After successful completion of our training program, our residents have gone on to competitive fellowships for craniofacial and hand, entered into private practice, and taken academic appointments.
