Acute Care Department

Licensed physical and occupational therapists from Acute Care treat patients bedside and in the North Tower Physical/Occupational Therapy Department on the main floor. This department is staffed by physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and support staff. The Acute Care Department provides comprehensive evaluations and treatments for a wide variety of patients referred primarily from Orthopedics, Medicine, Neurology, General and Plastic Surgery, Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, and Rheumatology. Services provided include gait training, therapeutic exercise, wound management, and modalities, ADL retraining, perceptual and cognitive retraining, splinting, scar management, lymphadema treatment, and early rehabilitation. These services are provided from 7:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Physical therapy is provided on weekends and all holidays for wound management and priority treatments. Occupational therapy is provided on Saturday and Sunday and all holidays for priority treatments.

Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) unit is staffed by an occupational therapy supervisor, physical therapist, and support staff. This unit provides services to adults of ages 65 and over with an acute medical condition. This unit provides a multi disciplinary approach to restore function and to minimize complications.
