Dr. Kathi Kemper, M.D., MPH, conducts a Second Opinion Clinic at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Kemper is recognized internationally as the leading authority on complementary therapies for children, and is frequently sought out as a visiting professor and mentor.
Dr. Kemper is the Caryl J Guth Chair for Holistic and Integrative Medicine at WFUSM. She is Professor in Pediatrics, with a joint appointment as Professor in Public Health Sciences and a cross appointment as Professor in Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Kemper was the PI on NIH- NCCAM 1R21AT000213-01 Curriculum for Pediatric Herbs and Dietary Supplements. From 2000 – 2001, she served as the PI on an NIH NCCAM- 1R25AT000538-01, the Center for Pediatric Integrative Medical Education before moving to Wake Forest University School of Medicine where she is now the site director. Dr. Kemper also founded and chaired the Longwood Herbal Task Force, a multidisciplinary group of clinicians associated with Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; as chair of this task force, Dr. Kemper mentored over a dozen medical, nursing, pharmacy and nutrition students and faculty as they conducted their first literature reviews and wrote summary articles. Dr. Kemper is the PI on NIH R01 1R01LM007709-01, Evaluating an Internet-Based Curriculum about Herbs. All of these projects have been highly multidisciplinary, translating basic and clinical research into educational and clinical practices. All have had a strong emphasis on evaluation. Dr. Kemper is past president of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association, the international professional association of generalist pediatricians.
