PGY-1 Residency
WFUBMC offers a one-year, ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency that is designed to provide a broad range of experiences in a progressive environment committed to pharmaceutical care and education. Four positions are available each year.

Rotations
Flexibility allows residents to tailor their experiences to meet their individual interests and career goals.
· Seven 6-week rotations
· Drug Information is the only required rotation
· Remaining 6 rotations are selected from a list of 15 electives
· All rotations precepted by outstanding clinical specialists
· Ambulatory care and practice management are longitudinal
experiences integrated throughout the year.

Presentations
Written and verbal communication skills are emphasized throughout the program. Some of the presentation experiences include:
· Pharmacotherapy CE Program · Poster Presentation at
ASHP Midyear
· Journal Club · Case Presentations
· Project Presentation at the Southeastern Residency Conference
· Inservices on rotations
Precepting
By precepting students, residents will refine their teaching skills and further deepen their own clinical knowledge base.
· WFUBMC is a rotation site for students from the University of North Carolina and Campbell University Schools of Pharmacy (approximately 160 student months per year)
· Precepting responsibilities available on most rotations
Projects
· Each resident completes:
- an independent research project
- a drug usage evaluation (paired with another resident)
Staffing

· Every third weekend in Central pharmacy
