Parking at the Medical Center
A visitor parking deck (800 cars capacity, #18 on campus map) is adjacent to the Sticht Center (#24 on campus map). The availability of parking to study participants and proximity to the Geriatric Research Center (Sticht Center) is extremely important for recruitment and retention in clinical research. Another parking deck (800 cars capacity) for WFUSM personnel is located on Hawthorne Road across to Waltlington Hall (#25 on campus map).
The Geriatric Research Center provides free transportation to clinic visits and intervention classes for participants who live within Forsyth County and who do not drive. The GRC employs a driver and leases a van for this purpose. We have found this to be an important and invaluable part of successful recruitment and retention. A cost comparison with community taxi service was conducted; the total cost of providing van service was at least 20% less expensive than taxi service.
