Sign Language Interpreters
In order to remain in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, effective communication MUST be provided for deaf and hard of hearing persons at governmental agencies, places of employment and places of public accommodation (i.e., physicians' offices, law offices, hospitals, police stations, courts, etc.) Effective communication can only be provided at times by hiring the services of a professional sign language interpreter. Based on this act, an interpreter must be provided to our hearing impaired patients who is qualified and trained in medical and legal terminology. Patient Relations has contracted an agency to assist the
Medical
Center
with this need. Communication Access Partners (
CAPS
) is the company that the
Medical
Center
is currently utilizing for sign language interpretation.
CAPS
offers 24 hour emergency service and uses nationally certified and state classified interpreters. You can contact them by calling
993-4200
or 333-4575
(beeper).
Several independent interpreters may also be available to assist you should
CAPS
interpreters be unavailable. They are:
