Dr. James “Whit” Mims is an assistant professor of otolaryngology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.  He has been on the faculty at Wake Forest School of Medicine for 7 years.  Dr. Mims has a general otolaryngology practice serving pediatric and adult patients.  While he specializes in nasal disorders, sinusitis, allergy, sleep apnea, and pediatric otolaryngology, he has expertise ranging from hearing disorders to thyroid surgery.  Dr. Mims combines state of the art surgical technology, such as image-guided sinus surgery, with advanced medical therapy, (e.g. allergy immunotherapy) to seek a high quality care for his patients

 

As a surgeon, Dr. Mims is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Being a dedicated member of many medical organizations, Dr. Mims chairs the Content Development subcommittee of American Academy of Otolaryngology Allergy and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Otolaryngology Allergy.  Additionally, Dr. Mims is currently coordinating a research project with Sam Cohen, MD.   

 

After graduating from Emory University with a major in Philosophy, Dr. Mims then received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1995.  He completed his surgical internship and Otolaryngology residency at Wake Forest University – Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
