Brian Matthews, MD, FACS Associate Professor

Rhinology and allergies

Dr. Matthews is a native of North Carolina and received his undergraduate degree from NC State University. After two years of graduate studies in Cell Biology, Dr. Matthews returned to Winston-Salem where he attended Wake Forest University School of Medicine, graduating in 1980. He served as a Resident Physician from 1980-1985 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following which he joined the faculty of the Department of Otolaryngology. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and a fellow of the American Rhinologic Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, American College of Surgeons, and the International Barany Society.

Dr. Matthews is a leader in the field of nasal and sinus disorders. He was one of the first surgeons to perform Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in the United States, has authored multiple articles on the treatment of sinusitis and lectures frequently about chronic sinusitis.  Dr. Matthews offers a full range of services for the treatment of sinus and nasal disorders including: allergy testing, image guided endoscopic sinus surgery, and reconstructive nasal surgery, and treatment of nasal tumors.
