Make a difference by Creating Excellence in Nurse Anesthesia |
The Nurse Anesthesia Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center currently has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Director. Our program is in the midst of a very positive growth trend, with a strong applicant pool and having experienced an expansion in our enrollment by 25% over the past two years. To keep pace with our student body, we have recently expanded our faculty resources, which has brought us an additional position for a new Clinical Education Coordinator, and a current opportunity for a new Assistant Director.

The Nurse Anesthesia Program has been in place since our first graduating class of 1942. We have been very successful over the years, producing high quality graduates and fostering faculty development. Our faculty and graduates have included four AANA presidents, and numerous state association presidents, Program Directors, and district leaders. Our program currently includes four members of the NCANA Board of Directors, a past-AANA president, and the current President of the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists.

Our program enjoys the support of our world-class medical center, a top-rated medical school (including simulator lab, anesthesiology grand rounds, etc.), and a renown nursing school which is rated as one of the "most-wired" in the U.S.

We have historically enjoyed a maximal accreditation status (we are currently in a 10-year cycle), and have been ranked among the top programs in the country (currently #11).

Our program faculty follow the vision to "Create Excellence" in Nurse Anesthesia. Following this vision, we strive to produce graduates who are not only excellent clinicians, but who also embody passion for nurse anesthesia, stewardship of the profession, and professionalism resulting from a broad understanding of their role in the global health arena.

This vision supports our pursuit of some exciting programs, including an international clinical experience, student lobbying at the state capitol, and a service-learning project. We are committed to constantly improving the quality of our program and using the best in classroom technology, including wireless networking, online learning platform, and videoconferencing.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for course coordination and teaching in the anesthesia curriculum as well as providing clinical instruction two days per week at the Medical Center.

Responsibilities will also include managing educational outcomes, maintaining accreditation status, and coordinating special projects. We are seeking a strong clinical practitioner with at least 3 years of experience. Experience with teaching, management, and professional activities are important attributes for this position. A doctoral degree (or willingness to obtain one) is strongly preferred, as we look toward future directions for the program. The Assistant Director would hold visiting or adjunct faculty appointments with one or both, UNCG and WFU School of Medicine. We offer a salary that is competitive with clinical positions, and a full complement of employee benefits.

This program is run on a strong leadership philosophy which values every member and encourages faculty members to contribute their expertise to the best of their ability and in a very autonomous way. We need a strong educator to help us remain on our upward trajectory.

Effective teamwork is paramount, and we are seeking to assemble a team which works well together, complements each others’ strengths, and most of all, has fun! If you are an ambitious, innovative worker who receives great enjoyment from the rewards of educating students, you may be the person we are seeking.

This is an exciting opportunity to be an administrator of a progressive, innovative program.
