The Brain Tumor Center of Excellence was formed in 2003 as a collaborative effort between neurosurgery, oncology and radiation oncology. The Center is focused on becoming a national leader in patient care and research.
Patients come from all over North Carolina, the Southeast and beyond to seek care from this team of highly-experienced, nationally recognized experts in all facets of brain tumor treatment and study.
Image-guided surgery plays an important role in many of the brain and spine procedures performed at Wake Forest Baptist. Neurosurgeons at Wake Forest Baptist perform nearly 1,000 image-guided surgery procedures each year.
The advantage is that it allows tremendous precision – a way to see through or around things to visualize what’s coming next – so that adjustments or refinements can be made as the surgery proceeds.
