Advanced radiologic techniques, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), are available through close collaboration with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Neuroradiology Section. In addition, the Neuropathology Section provides pathologic consultations by dedicated Neuropathologists. A staff of eight nurse practicioners and physicians assitants are available to assist in the care of patients with tumors of the Central Nervous System and to provide support for their families or other care givers.

Wake Forest is a member of the major national brain tumor therapy consortia including New Advances in Brain Tumor Therapy (NABTT) and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and offers a wide variety of protocols for brain tumor therapy sponsored by these groups and developed internally. Patients can also be treated outside of formal research protocols when appropriate.

The Neurosurgery Department specializes in the surgical techniques developed to allow safe removal of brain tumors including microsurgery and stereotactic guidance. Minimally invasive techniques for the treatment and biopsy of brain tumors are also available.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine is also active in basic science research devoted to understanding the causes and advancing the therapy of brain tumors.
