Mission

  • Identify, evaluate, and bring to clinical practice new methods and therapies to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIA), as well as all other cerebrovascular disorders.
  • Create and implement educational materials and activities for Residents, Fellows, visiting faculty, practicing physicians, and the public.
  • Improve understanding of basic mechanisms of diseases and interventions that affect the cerebral circulation and the brain, and foster collaboration between the basic and clinical sciences.

The Research Center does not deliver health care.  This important dimension of our work is conducted in the Section on Stroke, Cerebrovascular Disease, and Neurosonology, directed by Dr. Charles Tegeler, Department of Neurology, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC  27157-1078, telephone # 336-716-7668, fax # 336-716-7794, and E-mail ctegeler@wfubmc.edu.

Specific Goals

To educate all categories of health care providers in the methods for prevention, detection, acute and chronic management of persons with cerebrovascular disease and vascular dementia.
