Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
Ensuring Treatment Success
Our six-bed monitoring unit, the most modern in the state, is dedicated to confirming a diagnosis of epilepsy and pinpointing seizure activity and origin. Video and electroencephalographic recordings of seizure activity can be made 24 hours a day.

Staffed by nurses and EEG technologists with training in epilepsy, this unit is designed with patient comfort in mind. Each room is large enough for a family member to stay overnight. A dayroom equipped with video-EEG connections allows patients to socialize and enjoy recreational activities.
Patients being evaluated for epilepsy surgery receive the most sophisticated tests available today. We're one of a few centers in the southeastern United States with extensive nuclear medicine facilities in the monitoring unit, allowing radioisotope injection for SPECT (single photon emission tomography) scanning during a seizure. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and PET (positron emission tomography) scans, neuropsychological tests and intracranial EEG are also available to confirm the seizure focus. |
