SWISS (Siblings with Ischemic Stroke Study)

Principal Investigator:  David Lefkowitz, MD

Objective:  Discover the genes that increase the risk of developing an ischemic stroke.  An ischemic stroke is due to the sudden interruption of blood flow to a part of the brain.  Genes influencing cholesterol, blood pressure, clotting and other as yet poorly recognized factors may increase the risk of ischemic stroke.

Therapy:  There is no therapy for this study.  The procedure of the study is to collect blood samples for genetic testing only.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

  • If you have had a stroke and you have a full-blood sibling that has had a stroke then you are both eligible.  You have to have had a stroke yourself and have a sibling that has also had a stroke.
