ESCAPE-PFO (Patent Foramen Ovale) Closure- Migraine Trial

Objective:  The purpose of this research study is to find out if closing a PFO in migraine patients can decrease the number or severity of migraine attacks. Migraine is a neurological disorder characterized by chronic and disabling headache.

Therapy:  Closure of the PFO through a non-invasive procedure.  The hypothesis is that by closing the PFO, migraines will decrease by 50% for patients with frequent and severe migraines.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

  • Between the ages of 18-70
  • Experience 4-14 migraines per month
  • Patient has a documented right to left shunt through a patent foramen ovale
