Stroke, Cerebrovascular Disease, and Neurosonology

The Department of Neurology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is internationally recognized for excellence in stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and neurosonology. Funded as a PGY-5 or 6 position, this Fellowship includes 1-2 years of work emphasizing clinical services, as well as a variety of potential electives for the optional second year, including neurorehabilitation, neurosurgery, neuroimaging, PET, or time with Stroke Research Center (Dr. James Toole, Director), Health Services Research Center (Dr. David Goff, Director), or Public Health Sciences (Dr. Greg Burke, Chairman). Research opportunities include acute stroke treatment, stroke prevention, sports-related concussion, and many projects using carotid ultrasound and TCD, including monitoring, screening studies, TCCD, and Dynamic Vascular Assessment analysis for TCD. All Fellows attend Neurovascular Ultrasound Courses, and meet eligibility for Neurosonology Certification Examination of the American Society of Neuroimaging. Fellows will interact with the Multi-Disciplinary Stroke Team and Stroke Service, with dedicated Stroke faculty (Drs. Tegeler, Reynolds, Lefkowitz, and Bettermann).
