Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health
Wake Forest University School of Medicine
National Advisory Board

The Charge

The need for an endowment is predicated on the fact that health care financing and research funding sources (governmental and private) exist in a fluctuating climate.  Because of the increasing racial and ethnic disparities in health and their impact on all of society, an endowment has been proposed to ensure the perpetuity of the Angelou Research Center.  The success of the endowment initiative will require meaningful collaboration between the Center leadership, External Advisory Boards (National Advisory Board and Regional Advisory Board), Dr. Angelou, the Medical School’s administration and the fundraising staff (Office of Development and Alumni Affairs).

The National Advisory Board members will serve as ambassadors and advocates with the public and provide counsel for the formulation of the principal fundraising goals and objectives, set standards of private philanthropic support, and advise on the identification, cultivation and solicitation of contributions to the Center by individuals, corporations and foundations.  The Development Office staff will provide assistance in the structuring and management of this important network.

Achievement of the Center’s mission will first and foremost benefit targeted minority populations and in so doing, lift the health status and well being of the nation.
