Mass Spectrometer Facility, a component of the Biomolecular Resource Core Laboratory

GC / Mass Spectrometer

Mass Spectrometer Facility
Department of Biochemistry
Wake Forest University School of Medicine
391 Technology Way
Building A1, Room 340
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Features:

·     Thermo Finnigan Trace MS

·     EI and negative ion CI sources

·     Unit mass resolution

·     Lower detection limit approximately100 fmole

·     Interfaced to a Trace 2000 GC with autosampler

The Trace MS gives investigators a simple to use tool for the analysis of small, volatile molecules isolated from biological sources.  This instrument is used primarily to measure F2-isoprostanes, aldehydes generated by lipid oxidation, and methylated fatty acids where sample mass is limited.  The Trace MS and Trace 2000 GC were purchased with grant funds from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and the Winston-Salem Foundation.
