Instructor Course
Course Description-
The one day ACLS Instructor Course utilizes small group learning stations to review current concepts of teaching cardiovascular care. In the learning stations participants will review essential skills and ACLS concepts, receive instruction on ACLS equipment use, and practice teaching a case presentation. Participants will also receive training in American Heart Association expectations for instructors.
Course Objectives-
Ø Demonstrate proficiency in current ACLS skills and concepts.
Ø Demonstrate proper function and use of ACLS teaching equipment.
Ø Demonstrate ability to teach ACLS concepts in a small group setting
Ø Demonstrate ability to evaluate students fairly and provide appropriate remediation as needed.
Ø Discuss Community Training Center and American Heart Association expectations for ACLS instructors.
Prerequisites-
Ø Completed Instructor Candidate Applicationindicating your instructor commitment, your acceptance by an AHA Training Center, and your verification of Instructor Potential. (must be turned in with registration form)
Ø Current AHA CPR (BLS) Healthcare Provider and ACLS Provider cards (include a copy of front & back of cards with registration).
Ø Participants must obtain a copy of a current ACLS Provider Manual (available in bookstore)
Ø Completion of the AHA online Core Instructor Course (will be sent with your packet after acceptance of the course).
Ø Must obtain a score of 90% or better on a valid AHA ACLS exam on the day of the instructor course.
Course Completion
Ø Mini-teaching station- Demonstrate teaching appropriate ACLS skills and concepts in a simulated classroom scenario.
Ø Satisfactory participation in all sections of the instructor course
