Join the real world of hospital nursing before you graduate! As a nursing extern at our hospital, you may continue your clinical studies between your junior and senior years as a BSN student; or, if enrolled in an ADN or Diploma program, you must be listed as both Nurse Aide I with the N. C. Division of Facilities Services and as a Nurse Aide II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Out of state students must complete a competency exam in order to be listed as a Nurse Aide I with NC DFS. Further information on the Nurse Aide listings may be viewed at: http://facility-services.state.nc.us/flowchrt.htm for Nurse Aide I or at http://www.wfubmc.edu/ncbh_hr/www.ncbon.org for Nurse Aide II. Instead of having to pay, you can earn while you learn!

Our 10-week summer session begins in May. Our day shift program combines orientation activities, continuing education classes and Nurse Aide II responsibilities in a medical/surgical unit or in special care units such as pediatrics, hematology/oncology, cardiology, neurosurgery, etc. Your nursing experience will be under the supervision of a resource RN.
