Before Changing Your Activity LevelBreast Cancer Center of Excellence :: Wake Forest Medical Center

Although most people can safely start and maintain an exercise program, it is always advisable before beginning a new exercise program to first contact your physician.

Always start an exercise program at a low level and progress slowly. If at any point in your exercise you develop any of the following symptoms, STOP exercising immediately:

  • any form of chest discomfort
  • discomfort in your neck, jaw, or arm
  • lightheadedness
  • unnatural sweating
  • nausea
  • marked shortness of breath

If your symptoms are not relieved in a few minutes, call 911. If the symptoms are relieved within a few minutes, call your doctor to report your symptoms.
