Heart Center Dining Program: Good Food That Is Good For You
Finding a Triad restaurant that serves entrees that are both healthful and delicious is not as difficult at it sounds. The Heart Center Dining Program of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center offers an impressive array of triad restaurants, cafeterias and food stores serving heart-healthy dishes.
Participating businesses in the Heart Center Dining Program clearly identify foods that are low in fat and salt and high in nutrients that promote good health. The program was created for the Heart Center by a registered dietitian and administered by the Heart Center’s community outreach coordinator, Stephanie Starling-Edwards, R.N.
In order to carry the Heart Center Dining Program’s healthy heart logo the restaurants must agree to provide recipes for analysis to determine if they meet the program’s guidelines. The guidelines are based on moderation in fat and salt intake, using the food guide pyramid as a benchmark.
Restaurants often have requests from customers to offer foods lower in fat or salt. The Heart Center Dining Program makes it convenient for restaurants to offer heart-healthy meals and easy for consumers on restricted diets seeking high-quality foods.
The chefs at all Heart Center Dining Program restaurants are committed to providing their customers with options for heart-friendly menu items. Each dish is clearly marked with a heart-shaped icon and language briefly describing the Heart Center Dining Program.
