Wake Forest Baptist: A World Leader in Cardiac Imaging
Wake Forest Baptist is proud to be considered a world leader in cardiac imaging. Our renowned Cardiovascular Imaging Center combines the expertise of our cardiologists and our radiologists to detect and diagnose heart disease more accurately with faster scans that provide clearer images of the heart.
The Center’s pediatric and adult cardiac imaging options include:
Cardiac MRI
Coronary angiography
Echocardiography and stress echocardiography
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging
Nuclear imaging
What else sets Wake Forest Baptist apart from other centers? We were one of the first 15 sites nationwide approved to use MRI as a diagnostic tool for heart disease. This new approach — developed at Wake Forest — provides a non-invasive option for those who are unable to have ultrasound for various medical reasons. In addition, we offer a new digital echocardiography system that allows our physicians to provide quicker diagnoses to physicians locally and in outlying communities. Plus, our Heart Center was one of the first in the country to utilize 2-D echocardiography for clinical diagnosis, and we later led the way in incorporating transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) into routine clinical practice.
At the Cardiovascular Imaging Center, our radiologists and cardiologists are proficient and experienced across the entire spectrum of cardiac imaging. Whether we are treating a premature infant with complex congenital heart disease, an athlete with unexplained chest pain, an individual five years post coronary artery bypass surgery with chest pain, or a healthy 45 year old in need of an aortic valve replacement, we can provide extraordinary results.
