Rotation Schedule

The 2006 - 2007 General Surgery Master Schedule is available online.

Rotations are designed to give residents graduated responsibility and a broad exposure to a variety of surgical specialties and problems. The basic rotations comprising the five years of a categorical general surgery residency are listed below. This may vary slightly from year to year, but the core rotations are revisited at various levels during the residency to provide a robust general surgical experience with an average major caseload of over 1000 cases on completion.

HO-I: Laparoscopic- 1 month, Hepatobiliary and Colorectal- 1 month, Surgical Oncology- 1 month, Vascular- 2 months, CT- 2 months, Trauma- 2 months, Surgical ICU- 1 month, Transplant- 1 month, Subspecialty: Neurosurgery, Plastics, Urology or ENT- 1 month

HO-II: Burns- 2 months, Pediatric Surgery- 2 months, Surgical ICU- 3 months, Trauma- 1 month, Chief's Service- 2 months, Forsyth- 1 month, Laparoscopic- 1 month

HO-III: Vascular- 2 months, Trauma- 2 months, CT- 2 months, Transplant- 2 months, Hepatobiliary and Colorectal- 1 month, Surgical Oncology/Forsyth- 1 month, General Surgery Night Consults- 2 months

HO-IV: 10-week blocks of the following rotations- Hepatobiliary and Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, Trauma Day SAR, Trauma Night SAR, Pediatric Surgery

Chief: 10-week blocks of the following rotations- Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary and Colorectal, Laparoscopic, Night Chief Surgical Officer, Chief's Service
