Thomas Pranikoff, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics in the Section of Pediatric Surgery.  Dr. Pranikoff received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from Tufts University in Boston, MA.  He completed his General Surgery residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI.  Postgraduate training included fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Extracorporeal Life Support at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Pediatric Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He joined the surgical faculty in 1997.

Dr. Pranikoff's interests include a broad base of thoracic and general surgical problems in children and care of critically ill newborns and older children.  He has particular interests in minimally invasive surgery and extracorporeal life support.

Dr. Pranikoff's research interests have included support for severe respiratory failure including extracorporeal life support and liquid ventilation; pediatric trauma and burns; benefits of subspecialty care; neonatal surgery; and oncology.

Dr. Pranikoff is the director of the 3rd year medical student clerkship in Surgery and is heavily involved in graduate medical education.
