| Russell M. Howerton, MD., FACS. Associate Professor Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Surgery Publications | After completing medical school at Vanderbilt University in1983 and surgical residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in 1989 I undertook fellowships in Surgical Endoscopy and Laparoscopy (Cleveland, 1991) and Hepatobiliary Surgery (London, 1992) before coming to Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
My interests since that time have been tumors of the liver, pancreas and esophagus and complex gastrointestinal surgery. I participate in a busy clinical service that includes the teaching of residents and medical students (see description of Hepatobiliary/Colorectal Surgery Service). As the Associate Chief of Professional Services for North Carolina Baptist Hospital I have an interest in improving the processes and systems we use in delivering care to improve the quality and efficiency of our care.
