Trauma Surgery
Trauma Surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center: the mission of our Trauma Center is to provide optimal patient care through the skills of a multidisciplinary team from the moment of injury through rehabilitation.
The Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center provides trauma surgery & services and first received the designation by the State of North Carolina as a Level I Trauma Center in 1982. This distinction has been recently renewed by the State Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee for the maximum four-year period. In 2001, the American College of Surgeons conducted a site visit and verified the Medical Center as a Level I Adult + Pediatric Trauma Center. We are currently the only trauma surgery center in the state with the pediatric distinction.
About the Trauma Surgery & Services Team
Leadership for trauma surgery and services at the Medical Center is provided by Dr. Michael Chang as Director along with Dr. Wayne Meredith and Dr. Preston Miller. The surgical needs of the trauma patients are also met by the services of the departments of neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric surgery, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology.
A Level I Trauma Center is a regional resource center that has the capacity of providing leadership and total care for every aspect of injury from prevention through rehabilitation.
