Precise and powerful, our 22-ton Gamma Knife is the first unit of its kind in North Carolina and has attracted patients from all over the United States. We are the South’s premiere facility offering patients this non-invasive, state-of-the-art procedure. Our team of specialists is among the most experienced in the country. We have become one of the nation’s busiest Gamma Knife centers, having treated nearly 2,000 patients since opening in 1999.

Really not a knife at all, Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a method of delivering an ultra-precise, highly focused dose of radiation to destroy tumors, vascular malformations and other benign and malignant brain lesions.

Based on nearly 40 years of clinical experience, Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery has become the treatment of choice for selected benign and malignant brain tumors and vascular malformations involving the brain, as an alternative to conventional open surgery.
Gamma Knife SRS is not intended to replace conventional neurosurgery, but it is an effective additional weapon which may serve as a supplement to standard neurosurgical treatment or as the preferred course of treatment when traditional surgery is not appropriate. |
