Laundry / Linen Management Departments
The Laundry and Department of Linen Distribution for the medical center and
affiliates is located on campus in the sub-basement level of Reynolds Tower. The production area of the Laundry operates seven days per week, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Friday, on second shift to launder 13.4 million pounds of linen annually. On first shift, Linen Distribution fills and delivers linen orders to diagnostic and treatment areas, prepares clean linen exchange carts for inpatient units and delivers clean linen to offsite affiliates such as Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Hoots Memorial Hospital, Sticht Center on Aging, Comp Rehab, the Child Care Center, J.R. Jones Emergency Center and Stokes Family Health Clinics in King. The clean linen exchange carts for the inpatient units are delivered to the user units on second shift, seven days per week.
The Laundry has a total of 58 employees, including all management and clerical support personnel. Linen Distribution has a total of 19 employees, which includes the manager, seamstresses and a truck driver. The Laundry operates at more than 115 pounds per employee work hour and the Laundry and Linen Distribution combined operates at more than 90 pounds per work hour.
The Laundry has a little less than 10,000 sq. ft. of production space with an additional 3,100 sq. ft. for the staging and sorting of soiled linens, 2,200 sq. ft. for the staging and holding of the clean linen exchange carts, 650 sq. ft. for order filling and make-up of clean linen exchange carts, 700 sq. ft. for scrubs and uniforms, 500 sq. ft. for office space and an employee break area and approximately 10,000 sq. ft. of remote storage and support space for laundry supplies, new linens and emergency back-up linens.
Outside of the main the hospital, the Laundry generates revenue from more than 65 linen accounts. The Laundry provides standardized linens for all users and revenue customers. Annually, in addition to the traditional patient linens, the Laundry processes over 775,000 reusable under-pads, 3.6 million PPE barrier gowns, 200,000 sets of scrubs and uniforms, 1.6 million pounds of wrappers and drapes for Inpatient OR and Outpatient Surgery and at least 230,000 pounds of specialty items such as pouches, lift slings, etc.
Dennis Robinson, Associate Director for Facility Services, is responsible for the overall operation of the Laundry and Linen Distribution; Frank Holder, Senior Production Supervisor and Gerald Tomberlin, Production Supervisor, are responsible for the daily operation of the Laundry and Ian Forrest, Linen Distribution Manager, is responsible for the daily operation of Linen Distribution.
