Patient care, medical education, and scientific research are three traditional activities of every academic medical center in the United States. The Wake Forest University Eye Center is at the forefront of those university academic centers that strive for excellence in these activities, as well as advancing medical and scientific progress.
Wake Forest University Eye Center is the only university-based academic center in western North Carolina that advances three important facets of the Medical Center's mission. The Eye Center has developed resources to meet the steadily increasing demands for sophisticated, evidence-based patient care. All subspecialties in ophthalmology are represented among our fourteen faculty members, including specialists whose expertise is in the areas of retinal and vitreous surgery, glaucoma, pediatrics, corneal and external disease, neuro-ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic and orbital surgery, and ocular oncology.
In addition to patient care, the Eye Center provides diversified educational programs which reach out to the community and regional positions served by the Medical Center. Our Eye Center also serves as a foundation for training future ophthalmologists. In addition to medical education, significant clinical research activities try to elucidate origins of disease and improve treatment of our patients.
