Winston-Salem is North Carolina’s fourth largest city with a population of ~220,000 (county population of 340,000). It is located in the “Piedmont Triad” area of NC which is only 1 ½ hours from the mountains, with snow skiing available in the winter, and only 4 hours from the beautiful NC beaches. Winston-Salem is the nation’s 11th largest financial center in the country and is home to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, RJ Reynolds Corporation, BB&T Bank, and Texas Pete Hot sauce just to name a few. National Business Employment Weekly recently announced that Winston-Salem was “fifth among big cities for career opportunities”. The cost of living index for Winston-Salem is ~20% below the national average. Housing is very affordable with most residents purchasing homes during their residency and able to walk to work.

     Winston-Salem enjoys the pleasures of all four seasons with an average temperature of 57.8 F (summer 77 F, winter 37 F). Outdoor activities are plentiful. North Carolina is a popular tourist location for many travelers. Both North Carolina and Winston-Salem have a multitude of beautiful parks to visit. The famous Blue-Ridge Parkway can be reached just north of Winston-Salem for a Sunday drive and picnic. Residents enjoy hiking, camping, mountain biking, tennis and golfing just to name a few.

     The public school system in Winston-Salem is second to none. Winston-Salem is also home to Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, Salem College, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Forsyth Technical Community College. Speaking of the arts, did you know that Winston-Salem has been first nationally in per capita giving to the arts! Winston-Salem is also home to some outstanding museums, art galleries, and science centers. Historic “Old Salem”, a working early century Moravian community, is located near downtown Winston Salem and is always a popular attraction to visit.

The night life is also alive in Winston-Salem. Outstanding restaurants, downtown Jazz festivals, and plenty of live music throughout the city will keep you coming back for more. Shopping is also plentiful, particularly since NC’s largest mall, Hanes Mall, is located in Winston-Salem.

 

Plenty of spectator athletic activities are available for your choosing. ACC athletics from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem Warthogs minor league baseball, and stock car racing are always fun to attend.

     Come visit Winston-Salem! You’ll find it to be a charming progressive southern city with “all the amenities of a larger city without all the hassles.”
