What We Do:
EMIG holds monthly lunch talks on different topics of student interest, many have lunch provided. We are always looking to have speakers and clinics based on what student interests. Please contact us if you have an idea for a talk or clinic. See below for a few examples of what we have done.
Examples of Some Past Year Talks:
Acute Coronary Syndromes - Dr. Hoekstra, chairman of EM, talks about assessment and basic treatment of cardiac problems
What is Emergency Medicine? - Dr. Manthey gives an overview of what exactly Emergency Medicine and what EM docs do on a daily basis
Emergency Medicine Residency - Dr. Sokolosky, Wake’s EM residency director, speaks on what to do to get an EM residency and what program directors look for in an applicant
Pediatric Emergency Medicine - Dr. Nadkarni, Peds EM medical director, talks about the subspecialty of Pediatric EM
Less Lethal Weapons – Dr. Bozeman speaks on one of his research interests – the evolving field of weapons like stun guns, pepper spray, beanbag guns and the injuries that EM physicians will see as these are utilized more in the future.

Airway Clinics - One of the most popular clinics - a team of EM doctors instructs students how to intubate and use other airway devices and the BVM
Beginner Suture Clinics - Dr. Leonard and Dr. Blumstein instruct students on how to suture and use Dermabond and staple
Advanced Suture Clinic - Dr. Leonard and Dr. Blumstein teach more techniques how to suture
Improvisational Medicine - Dr. McGinnis shows students how to use what they have at their disposal to make splints and other temporary makeshift devices
