Creative Communications maintains a digital microscopy suite on the first floor of the Gray Building. The purpose of this facility is to provide state-of-the-art light photomicrography capabilities for research publication. Registered Biological Photographers are available to train and assist researchers to obtain high quality micrographs for publication and research.

Our camera, Diagnostic Instruments Digital Spot RT, is a 3-pass capture device with a thermoelectrically cooled CCD. It is ideally suited for fluorescence and other types of long exposure microscopy. The camera is networked making it simple to save your images to any departmental server. If you prefer, it is also possible to burn images to CD.

The photomicroscope is capable of bright field, dark field, fluorescent, nomarski, and phase contrast imaging. It is outfitted with plan-apo objectives from x1 to x100.

The macroscope is able to photograph at lower powers than the microscope. It is capable of reflective, transmitted and darkfield illuminations. It also can be used to photograph 3 dimensional objects.

Creative Communications has posted an instructional guide to microscopy available under Creative University > Tip Sheets as a PowerPoint slide show.
