Living in Winston-Salem

The moderate year-round climate gives way to several outdoors activities in Winston-Salem and throughout North Carolina. Nearby Tanglewood Park is home to two championship golf courses, tennis courts, a swimming pool, picnic areas, horseback riding, and other outdoor activities. It is only a short drive to Hanging Rock and Pilot Mountain State Parks, and about a two hour drive west to Grandfather Mountain and the Great Smokey Mountains. The North Carolina Beaches are a four to five hour drive to the east.
Winston-Salem is a strong supporter of the arts. There are public art galleries throughout the city, including the Reynolda House Museum of American Art. The North Carolina School of the Arts showcases art festivals, dance, and theatrical performances year-round. The musically inclined may attend concerts throughout the year presented by the local symphony groups, the Arts Council, the city of Winston-Salem, and other local organizations.
