Blood Diseases

Blood diseases are pathological conditions resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress, and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms.  Dyscrasias is another nonspecific term that refers to any disease or disorder. However, it usually refers to blood diseases. Before modern medicine, blood diseases referred to an imbalance of the four humors.

Hereditary blood diseases can be corrected with a bone marrow transplant. This procedure involves transplant healthy bone marrow into a patient whose bone marrow is not functioning properly.
