Research

The research efforts of the Comprehensive Cancer Center are broadly divided into three programs, including the Clinical Research, Cancer Control, and Basic Science Programs.  By demonstrating depth and breadth in these three areas, the Cancer Center at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has earned the National Cancer Institute’s Comprehensive designation, the only Cancer Center in western North Carolina to be so designated, and one of only 43 NCI Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States.

The Cancer Center’s three Programs are structured such that optimize interdisciplinary and translational research, that is, working together to take the most promising discoveries from the laboratory into the clinic for the benefit of individuals and the public.  The Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University believes research cures cancer.  Whether it is the discovery of a cancer resistant mouse, developing a revolutionary technique to detect the smallest of colon cancers, or strengthening the body’s immune system to prevent cancer, the scientists and clinicians at Wake Forest are working around the clock for you and your loved ones.
